In the past, I’ve felt “called” to do or be something or other, but I’ve never felt it with the kind of intensity and repetitive presence as I felt called back to the Arenal Volcano; she appears in my dreams, my art, my meditations— I’ve eaten from her slopes and rubbed her earth and plants on my skin. I’ve marched up and down her lower flanks and swam in her waterfalls and rivers. I feel smoldering desire and seething passion from her fiery core and I’ve received healing deep into the level of my soul in her shadow. My adventure in La Fortuna, at the Arenal Volcano has been nothing like I’ve ever previously experienced in my life; now that I know what it feels like, now that I understand what it means to be called to level up, I understand the importance of tuning-in, receiving messages from the source, integrating that information. I also understand how pressure builds, releases, destroys, how those in its shadow feel pain and how important this is to stimulating growth— that it opens a resource, a space for the light to reach the jungle floor, changing the landscape of the psyche.

And I still feel the Volcano’s commanding energy as powerfully as I feel the playfulness of the ocean.
