Self-Care in the Micro-Month

February is such a short month and I, the self-appointed, self-care queen, am feeling challenged by how to fit everything important in during this micro-month. Maybe something needs to be modified to be realistic, or maybe this is a season where self-care is a non-negotiable, and sometimes it’s hard to tell where there is space for give. I have a lot of daily self care rituals that keep me on track so that I can be an effective and inspiring caregiver; and I’ve added some flair to my annual goals that are asking me to lean in a little.

If it feels impossible to fit it all in, this message is for you: “don’t let the allure of hustle culture win out over your vital self-care practices.” It doesn’t have to be hours long to be effective. It just has to be consistent. Every day, ideally at the same time each day, giving your brain time to rest. Nature walks, meditation and flow arts are amazing and relatively accessible examples that allow the space your brain needs to start processing all of the things it is exposed to every day.

Sometimes, we have to face negotiations with our self care practice priorities; for me that, in itself, can be stressful. Here are 4 questions that help me navigate that determination:

— does this feeling have a name or a label?

— do I feel it anywhere in my body?

— would anything fix or change this to a more positive experience right now?

— can I delegate anything right now?

As a self-appointed, self-care queen — SASCQ, I want those of you just starting out to know that my routine did not happen over-night. I started with one thing — for me it was movement. My dear friend, Suz, in New York taught me this while we were in massage school. She told me I need to move a little bit every day. It felt like an intentional and sustainable version of my high school “work out” routine. Over time and experience, it’s grown to an expansive and powerful practice that keeps me balanced, happy and most importantly safe in my mind and body.

For 2025, I set some ambitious, but achievable goals. Most of them are weekly and monthly routine additions to bring me more embodiment, like nature walks, music & dancing; as well as business, financial & interpersonal goals tucked in there.  So-- Does anyone one want to spend time in nature or go see some live music?
